11 Cambodian Loggers Killed In Two Months
The deaths of four more Cambodian over the past two weeks brings to 11 the number of people killed by Thai soldiers so far this year while illegally logging across the border. The death toll is fast approaching the 15 Cambodians killed in the entirety of 2011 while logging on the Thai border. The most recent victims – Van Khly, 20, Soeun Siem, 31, and Meng Ty, 23 – crossed the border from Oddar Meanchey province’s Samraong city on Wednesday and were shot dead by Thai soldiers about 3 km inside Thai territory at 8 p.m. that evening, said Ou Chansokha, chief of administration at the O’Smach International Checkpoint. He said details of the latest killings came from a brief report prepared by the Thai border officials who handed the bodies of the men over to Cambodian authorities the following afternoon. …
